Are you having severe pain with cold ?

Cervical abrasion is one of the common problems in this century. We have seen many patients coming in our chamber with the same problem; mostly unaware of the condition. The patient turns up with a chief complain of continuous or intermittent pain in a region which can be unilateral or bilateral, depending upon the severity of the damage.
What you need to see?
1. Pain or sensitivity with cold water or air.
2. Pain or sensitivity during brushing or rinsing of your mouth.
3. Catch or uneven surfaces on the sides of your tooth.
4.The pain are all gone just after applying or brushing with your desensitizing tooth paste but soon returns after an 6-24 hour period.
5. The pain or sensitivity is increased during the night or when the temperature falls.

Most often the patient might not be aware of the problem, especially if the patients are above 40s with periodontal problem; this is due to the formation of the secondary dentine which stops any symptom of pain for such patients. In some cases we have also seen the death of the pulp and the affected tooth becomes de-vital.
What will happen if you keep such teeth untreated?
Many companies have now started advertising that their tooth paste will provide relief from pain or sensitivity to their customers. Some even promises the repair of the affected tooth. But the truth is that if you have such a condition then it cannot be repaired by its own, I will explain this later in this article. To know what will happen if you keep such teeth untreated - you need to know the cause of it first. Here below I have discussed some causes for the same -
>Improper brushing habit- is the main cause for cervical abrasion.
>Periodontal breakdown is also indirectly responsible for such symptom of sensitivity.
>Use of toothpick or dental floss improperly can cause such state of the tooth.
>Systemic acidity can add up to the above problems to aggravate this situation.
>Other dental deformity or improper occlusion can also increase its severity.
Prevention:
>Proper brushing and flossing habits.
>Oral-hygiene maintenance every three month.
>If you are already affected by severe tooth wear then restoration of these affected areas are very necessary to protect your teeth from further wear and tear.
>Untreated tooth can even cause more wear of the teeth and the teeth can finally break down due to your biting or masticatory forces.
>In severe cases we prefer to perform a root canal and place a crown to protect your tooth.
What do we do to your affected tooth?
We restore them with our special materials which help to protect your tooth from breaking down completely. Here below is the picture of a patient before and after the treatment.

After the completion of the fillings we perform a thorough cleaning and finishing of the restoration. These procedures are completely painless and it’s a permanent treatment .There after a couple more visits are necessary for us to monitor the state of the restoration.

There are tooth colored restorative materials as well, we select the restorative material depending upon the case’s requirement.
